A cruise wedding package can make getting married at sea feel wonderfully simple. One price. One ship. One tidy list of inclusions.
But listen, “wedding package” does not mean your entire wedding trip is included.
The package usually covers the wedding itself. Your cruise cabin, airfare, hotel, guest cabins, and many of the personal touches you may picture can still be separate.
What Is Usually Included in a Cruise Wedding Package?
Cruise wedding package inclusions vary by cruise line, ship, ceremony type, guest count, and package level. A base package may include some combination of:

- Officiant or shipboard officer

Some higher-level packages may add a private reception, cocktail party, group dinner, DJ, live music, upgraded flowers, additional décor, spa perks, or romantic amenities for the couple.
The important word is “may.”
Is the Couple’s Cruise Cabin Included?
Usually, no.
This is one of the biggest surprises for couples. The wedding package is generally added to an existing cruise reservation. The couple still pays for the cruise fare, taxes, fees, and any extras attached to the cabin.
Does a Cruise Wedding Package Include a Full Reception?
Not automatically.
Cake and champagne after the ceremony can be a lovely celebration. It is not the same as a full reception with a private venue, food, drinks, music, seating, and dedicated time for everyone to party together.
If you want the same kind of reception you would have at home, choose a cruise line and package that specifically provides it. Do not plan the ceremony first and hope enough tables will be available in a public nightclub later.
Are Cruise Wedding Photos Included?
Sometimes the photographer’s time is included, while the actual images cost extra.
Those are two very different things.
A package might provide ceremony coverage, one printed photo, or a limited photo session. Digital files, albums, additional hours, reception coverage, and upgraded packages may be separate.
Please add room in the budget for photographs. The spa day is lovely. The excursion is fun. But your wedding photos are what you will still have years from now.

How Many Guests Should Your Package Cover?
Do not choose the largest package only because you invited a large number of people.
Travel expenses, work schedules, school calendars, passports, and vacation time can make attendance lower than it might be for a wedding at home. As a planning estimate, I often begin around 50 to 60 percent of the invitation list, while making it clear that every group is different.

Why Guests Should Book Through the Official Wedding Group
Guests generally pay for their own cabins, but they should reserve through the couple’s official wedding group and travel advisor instead of booking independently online.
That allows me to keep reservations connected, share deadlines and travel information, track who has actually booked, and help qualifying cabins count toward available group benefits. A reservation made elsewhere may not automatically become part of the group, and moving it later is not always possible. Plus, it’s important that the wedding couple get the most benefits from the group booking. If people book outside of the group, the couple may not reach their alloted benefits from the group.
Guests receive clear instructions explaining how to book. Following those instructions protects the group and keeps the couple from managing everyone’s travel themselves.
How Far in Advance Should You Book a Cruise Wedding?
Begin at least one year ahead whenever possible.
A cruise line’s technical wedding deadline is not the same as a smart planning timeline. A wedding might technically be accepted close to sailing, but the preferred ceremony time, venue, cabin categories, and group space may be long gone.
In my professional experience, waiting until 90 days before sailing is far too late to expect useful group cabin space. Starting a year ahead gives us a much better opportunity to establish the group, compare packages, secure cabin choices, and give guests time to budget and make payments.
How to Choose the Right Cruise Wedding Package
Before looking at price, decide what is most important.
Do you want professional photography and digital images?
Do you want a full private reception, or will cake and champagne feel complete?
Is being married by the captain part of the dream?
Does the ceremony need to be legally binding, or would you prefer to complete the legal paperwork at home and hold a symbolic ceremony aboard the ship?
How many guests are genuinely likely to attend?
What do you want everyone to experience immediately after the ceremony?
Many couples choose a symbolic ceremony and complete the legal marriage at home because it can simplify the paperwork. Legal options depend on the cruise line, itinerary, location, officiant, and timing.
There is no universal “best” cruise wedding package. There is only the package that fits your priorities, guest group, and complete budget.
The Biggest Mistake Couples Make
The biggest mistake is choosing a cruise line or package mainly because it is the cheapest, a friend of a friend used it, or strangers in a Facebook group or TikTok comment called it “the best.”
Choose the experience first. Then choose the cruise line, ship, sailing, and package that can actually deliver it.
